I have been giving the guy I fish with a hard time about buying his boat so he can get a new one. Well tonight he called and offered it to me. It just got a brand new 70 horse 4-stroke last year. The boat would also come with a trolling motor. The boat is in very good condition and he has owned it since it was brand new. What is a fair price? I have looked around but can’t find much for boats like this. Thanks for your responses.

    Jeffery,
The problem is that it probably cost your buddy 7 grand or so for the new F70 tiller, so the majority of the rigs value is hanging on the transom.

The hull (and trailer?) is 20+ years old, so I’m not sure how you make him an offer that doesn’t insult him. Maybe talk with your insurance man, and ask him to help you determine a true value, in the event it gets totaled or stolen the day after you buy it.

He bought a new trailer in 2004. He wants $9500 for the boat and I don’t think it is a good price just curious what others thought that know more about boats than I do.

    I have that F70 on our pontoon, it’s a great motor…

HRG is correct in that $7k-$8k of that price is the motor, if the boat is in good shape with solid flooring/deck, no major hull issues, it sounds like a good deal…
