1976 Evinrude 25 hp was running great and all of a sudden lost power and I put it in neutral and it cut off. Got it cranked back up but had no power. Really hard to start. When I got home I noticed a lot of oil running out of a small round hole in the lower unit. Also there’s was a lot of oil around the base of the prop.

I would check the tiny fuel filter on the outside of the fuel pump.

Have you checked or changed the water pump might want to do a compression check.

When you say, had no power…
does that mean the motor couldn’t rev up?
Did the motor sound different when it lost power or when you got it back running:
    Did it sound boggy?
Did it sound like things were rattling?

When you increase throttle, what did it do? Bog, or increase as it should?

    Could be water in fuel.
    Could be spun prop.
Could be detonation – blown rings and scorn cylinders.

Do you have a fuel/water separator?

The small round hole on the lower unit, is it threaded like a plug goes in there? Might have shredded a lower unit if it was being lubricated with water…What color is the oil you see? Black, Milky, Brown?
