18v drill/auger problem…Any ideas

I have a rigid gen 5 18v brushless drill that’s paired with a 6″ nills auger. Sometimes i can punch 20 holes no problem and other times i can barely do 2 before my drill just “stops”. Cuts like butter but just randomly my drill stops…and i have to wait for like 20 secs before it turns back on again. Drill and batteries are new. Been out in cold weather and warmer weather so I don’t think its a issue with the temps. Anyone else had any problems like this? The auger cuts effortlessly but the issue of the drill randomly stopping is killing me. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks

Get rid of the Rigid and get a Milwaukee jester I knew someone was going to say it – Might as well be me. My only guess is the drill is sometime overheating and shutting down. May be a defective drill. It may only happen under a heavy load ( Like a auger would cause )

Call down to Thomas tool in Burnsville. Ask for Chris. He’ll know what’s going on!

Does it turn slow? Like there’s a lot of load on it? Might just be too much for the rigid 18. Get yourself a DEWALT brushless 20v hammer drill with the 5ah xr battery. You’ll never look back.

And then when you save up for something even more durable and powerful, get the Milwaukee Fuel smash

Guy I fish with had the same issue with the Ridgid drill you have.Maybe the drill is protecting itself?

The best drills is either the DeWalt DCD996,or the Milwaukee Fuel 2706-22.You have to watch the handle on the Milwaukee, make sure it is fairly snug, don’t over-tighten it or push down on it when drilling. Most of the time,I don’t even use the handle with K-drill.K-drill cuts the same from top to bottom without grabbing.Even goes through”sandwich”ice without seizing.

I have the same drill, tried it with a buddy’s Nils. Reacted the exact same way. I was running the standard 2 amp/hour batteries and was told that was the issue. Upgraded the batteries, problem solved.

I have the same drill paired with a 6inch lazer, cut 40 holes with a single 4ah battery on sunday in 18 inches of ice. I have 5 buddies at work running the same drill with no issues. Lifetime warranty on ridgid products so if it is indeed a defective drill, send it back and get it replaced.

one more thing i thought of, its pretty obvious but i don’t think anyone mentioned it.

Make sure your speed is set to 1 (this gives you more torque), and make sure you are in DRILL mode.
