Looking at ordering an 1875 impact with a 150 etec in it. It will also have a 9.9 kicker. Is anyone running one that could give me some information on prop, performance and overall how they like it?

Lots of hit and misses on Etec reviews/opinions. I just purchased a new boat and the only thing I considered was a 150 Yamaha or the 150 Suzuki SS. I went with the 150 Suzuki SS and so far no complaints. Quiet and has more power than a person needs but works well for water sports also.

If you have your choice of motors I would rather go with any other motor manufacture then an e-tec IMO. Cant go wrong with either a yammy or merc 4 stroke.
June 23, 2017 at 11:12 am #1700577I was looking at the warranty. I have a yamaha 150 now and have never had an issue. But the ease of winterization and an 8 year warranty is very tempting.

Its ultimately your choice but why go away from something you never had a problem with.
June 23, 2017 at 12:27 pm #1700597There were some issues with etecs when they first came (like 10-15 years ago!) out but as far as I know they’ve all been resolved. This is my third summer with my etec and I love it. I have about 150 hours on the engine now. The only issue I ever had was a hot lower unit because I tried to use a small barrel prop that restricted the exhaust. Evinrude was great about helping me through that even though I chose to install a Merc Trophy prop which was causing the issue. I haven’t had a single issue since I stopped using the small barrel prop.
A friend of mine has an opti on his boat, which is the same model as mine. We’ve both tried a lot of props to get dialed in. His opti is a lot noisier at idle and seems to have less torque on the low end (though that has a lot to do with the gear case and prop). My etec is a few MPH slower than his Opti at WOT no matter what I do.
Users generally talk about the E-tecs being quiet, having little or no smoke in the exhaust, and having a lot of torque at low and mid-range RPMs (think “great hole shot”). That’s my experience. The winterization procedure is slick, but that wasn’t a big deal for me personally.
Merc, Yamaha, Suzuki and Evinrude are all making great engines right now. It would be hard to go wrong with any of them.
June 23, 2017 at 9:51 pm #1700654Took delivery of a new Lund Impact 1675 with 90 hp ETEC mid April. Was a Yammy guy before with no issues, but decided to go with the ETEC to save 50 lbs. and a few hundred bucks. Dealer set me up with a 17 pitch SS Viper prop, but topped out at 36 mph at 6500 rpm wot. Owners manual recommended rpms of 5500 at wot so dealer repropped me with a 19 pitch. Top speed hit 40 mph at 5500 rpm….problem solved. Most dealers should work with you on getting the right prop. Good luck.
PS Had the rig on Lac Seul for two weeks. Tracked gas consumption, and
got 5.7 mpg average for the two weeks. So far, so good with the ETEC.Jeff BerhowPosts: 1July 19, 2017 at 2:27 pm #1705512I would have comments on two parts of this discussion. From my own experience with the Verado I would not recommend one. When I purchased the 200hp Verado it would have represented what I thought was going to be the most advanced, best motor I would have owned to date. It has been anything but. Several small items, that ruined fishing weekends and a couple major items, with the last one ruining my annual fishing week with my two sons and our last month of fishing and or boating, as apparently parts are perpetually out of stock. Of 5 people I know well wit Verado’s 3 are as I have described two all ok. I also have several friends running E-Tec and not one has ever had an issue.

I might archive your comment on being the first person I’ve ever seen negatively comment about a VROD post 06-07’s . 2 best motors on the market and its not even close are VROD and Yammie’s.
July 19, 2017 at 4:10 pm #1705541I was kicking around the new boat idea last year and I talked with two different ETEC dealers that told me “just don’t”. I had to ask why and one of them said “the last two years ETEC has been blowing powerheads like popcorn” True or not this dealer said it’s been rough for ETEC lately.
For me more than anything the resale value on an ETEC is so poor they would be hard to consider.
July 19, 2017 at 4:57 pm #1705550I wouldn’t have an issue with an E-TEC; BRP makes solid products. That being said, I would still chose a Merc, Yam or Zuki motor over an E-TEC…Doesn’t make them a bad motor, I just think there’s better options out there. All from my armchair QB point of view.
