Hi all. I have a new to me 2013 Competitor tiller and would love some insight if anyone can give it. It came with a humminbird 1198 on the console, but it is pretty much centered in the middle of it. I’d like to add my previous Garmin unit as well, but there is not a lot of room, due to the humminbird’s placement. That being said, I’d like to reposition the humminbird unit, but am uncertain what the material under the console is. Can I just screw into it? Does the console need to come out, so the base can be attached with nuts and bolts?

I’m going to include a picture for reference.

Can’t you just get a RAM mount with a long arm and mount the Garmin to that? And just leave the Humminbird where it is.

Yeah, I’m thinking that may have to be my option. Only problem I see is the arm would be more diagonal and with it being longer, it seems it would be more likely to slip when pounding waves.

Still need to know if there is wood under the console to mount though.

Take the six screws out of the silver panel with the gauges and switches on it and see if you can get access to the underside of the area you want to mount to. I am not familiar with that particular boat but my pro v has a panel with the radio and switches on it that I can remove to get access to the underside of my dashboard. The items on the panel don’t have a lot of extra slack wire to move my panel far away but it does have enough slack to see what I need to and reach my hand in.

Take you currant set-up off. You should be able to see what is under the top of the dash. Otherwise grab a small drill bit and drill into it. If you have wood underneath saw dust will come up from the drill bit.
