i’m just curious why you want to use old CD technology? What model stereo is in your MX right now? JBL or Jensen? I keep a 16GB USB mini stick full of mp3 files plugged into the usb port under the dash, never any issues…
If using CD’s are a must, you could simply buy a small portable CD player and use the Line-in plug on the boat stereo.
August 23, 2016 at 2:37 pm #1635526For some reason there is no radio or cd player in the boat, I like the usb idea though. My old man has some old cd’s he likes to listen. I just like a good radio and was wondering what and where people mounted a full size cd player and antennae at?
August 23, 2016 at 3:08 pm #1635534Marine radio’s are never “good”, they always seem to have some issues…That being said, I like the Jensen marine radio my MX1825 has, can get the Twins game with good reception and the usb option works great. Another option would be to just buy a decent bluetooth waterproof speaker and keep it in your glovebox, then play/control songs/radio from your phone…
August 24, 2016 at 7:11 am #1635616I would go the bluetooth route. The advantage is you can use the speaker elsewhere, on the picnic table, at the campfire, etc.
A USB stick would be my second option if my music would fit on it.
I don’t know what you have for mounting options but I go another route. I use a music server (JRiver Media Center) connected online at home that is available from my phone anywhere that I have data. The music server is streamed via bluetooth to wherever I am, work, boat, truck, picnic table, campfire, etc.
If you do add a radio of some sort, pay attention to the RMS rated wattage. If it does not state wattage at RMS then pass. 50 w/ch at RMS gives you a benchmark. 100 w/ch without the RMS means nothing and could be less power than the 50 w/ch RMS.

I put a marine Sony in my MIL’s pontoon about 5 years ago, and it has been rock solid. Several times, it has literally been dripping wet, but it keeps chugging along!

August 24, 2016 at 7:29 am #1635629In a few weeks the Vikes will be on the radio Sunday afternoons.
I also forgot to mention the downside of USB sticks. Many decks can’t play gapless from a USB stick. Meaning there will be about a 2 second delay between each song. So forget about listening to Pink Floyd because you will be annoyed by the gaps placed between songs that should play seamlessly.
You can try looking for radios with gapless playback. I haven’t looked at them for a few years but I doubt there are many that will do gapless.

aint that the truth… I use the micro USB stick with 16 GB’s worth of mp3’s on it, works great…I also have a Crave bluetooth speaker that is awesome and perfectly fits in the MX1825 glovebox, the ability to control is from your phone is nice…
Dave McCarthyPosts: 3August 28, 2016 at 8:02 am #1636211I have been very happy with my Sonic Hub with the Lowrance in my boat. Good option if you use Lowrance products.
Kevin HinesPosts: 25August 28, 2016 at 12:24 pm #1636248Had Skeeter Boat Center install an FM/AM XM radio in my boat. We ended up installing it on the drivers side under the shifter. Also had 2 extra speakers put in on the front deck. Can’t hear the radio when up there with the normal speaker placement. Has worked out very nicely. Have football and baseball games on XM anywhere I am. Did not do a CD player this time. No pictures, but can get one for you if you are interested. Cal at SBC is the one who helped me figure this out and purchased the radio for the install.
Rob BullockPosts: 2September 1, 2016 at 12:12 am #1637099I bought and installed an app controlled Sony car deck with built in 200w amp, replaced the Jensen marine radio and Jensen 30w speakers, put 6.5″ Polk audio under console where the Jensen were and added 4″ polks on front deck…. Worth the time and money, you have complete control of the deck from your phone, it’s an awesome setup. I have to have a radio, and having the speakers up front let’s you keep the volume lower and you’re still able to hear everything when you’re up front.
