I just purchased 13 FreeFall Maverick and am very disappointed, the drag is very limited, has to be all the way lose to get the reel to turn but that’s not the worst part I Have it spooled with 3 lbs test and 1/16 jig and and set on the fastest drop speed and it still won’t drop. Any one else have this issue? Any suggestions?

I was pretty disappointed in the Freefall reel I bought a couple years ago. Definitely had to have a heavier jig to get it to freefall consistently and as you said, the drag is just awful. That being said, there is only one inline reel I’ve actually enjoyed using and that is the Spooler Elite from Clam. It doesn’t have the freefall feature so you have to hand strip the line out which can be annoying, but the drag system is superior to any other inline reel I’ve used and I don’t get any line tangling like I have with others as well. It’s the only inline I can stand using honestly, even the other Clam inlines that are more expensive. Don’t like them as much either.

Bought 2 freefall reels a couple years ago and ran into the same issues. Ended up selling them after only using them a couple times. There junk in my opinion.

I bought one last year and hate it too. I bought 3 piscifun reels at a fraction of the price and they are great reels. Much better drag and smooth as silk.

My 13 Decent has worked quite well over the past two seasons. The drop works well and the drag is fine for the panfish I have caught on it. I fish with some really small jigs at times.

No 2# plus rouge bass, northern or walleye caught on these tiny jigs … so I guess I cannot comment on fighting larger fish with that reel.

I have a couple piscifun reels and they are nice for the money. Nothing wrong with them at all.

They’re not a fraction or rather small fraction any more $60 from what I see

Nope it doesn’t work , thats the one I have just bought it at Reed’s Friday afternoon have to have the drop adjust all the to the + side to even get a 1/8 oz jig to move 3 lbs line.

Remove the spool and oil the bearings with a GOOD reel oil designed for low temp use. I have 8 or so 13 Decent reels and CGI reels (same company) some are fine out of the box, and some were not oiled enough at the factory. A couple drops of oil and a 1/32 oz and smaller jigs drop fast and easily.

The drags are not great compared to most spinning reels, but they’re ok if you adjust them carefully. It does NOT usually work well to tighten the drag and then try to loosen it to “just right.” Loosen the drag until there’s no resistance, and then slowly turn it tighter until it’s where you want it. A tip: If the drag is too tight while fighting a fish you can push the free-spool button and use your fingers on the spool to keep tension on the line (vs. many baitcasters that LOCK and won’t allow the release to be pushed while fighting a fish.)

My dumbass bought the fenwick/pflueger combo from Cabelas. Reel didn’t work at all. Wouldn’t engage after putting in “freefall” the first time. Still need to return but worst $85 spent ever

Funny that reel was my other choice and I read more negative on it than the 13 Fishing, appears neither is any good.
