Launched out of Everts on Sunday 12/28. Stopped in and talked to Brian and for a Catfish guy his Walleye advice was spot on. When we got to the ramp around 8:30AM there was only 1 other trailer in the lot and by the time we launched the other boat was already heading in so we had the river to ourselves and it remained that way till we left in the afternoon.
The rollers on both the right and left were partially open as opposed to last weekend where only the far right (WI side) was partially open so this changed the flow dramatically. So dramatically that there was an eddy in the middle of the river with the flow going down both sides.
Tried fishing the eddy without much luck so we pushed out into the current and tried to stay as vertical as possible. On the upper end of the drift the current flow was 2mph so it was much faster than previous weeks. It seemed to take no time at all to get from the dam to the 3rd wing dam.
We caught a mix of Walleye and Saugers from the top of the drift in 30′ all the way down to the 3rd wing dam in 16′. There was no real pattern/depth to where the Walleye vs Sauger were concentrated. The only pattern that we established was, all of the fish were caught in the fastest moving water. Tried fishing the seams and the slack water between the wing dams with nothing to show for it. Largest Walleye for the day was a 19″ and was the first fish in the boat. Most of the Saugers were in the 16-17″ range. All in all it was a great day on the water, no wind, sunshine, lots of fish boated, and we had the river to ourselves.
