12/12 – Pool 4

Well, there are no fish in Pool 4 as far as I’m concerned…at least not while fishing from the shore. Saw a couple of decent looking fish being pulled into boats drifting in front of the entry/exit of the Bay Point Park marina.

Fish seemed to be coming out of 16-18 FOW on both live bait and plastics based on what I could overheard/see in the boats, but I wasn’t able to get that deep from shore. Threw moxies in all colors, jerk minnows, crank-baits, rattle traps, etc.

In other words…I need a boat.

On the plus side, I did see an very cool eagle release at Colvill Park a bit later in the day. Six juvenile eagles released at the park after being found with injuries prior. UofM raptor center appeared to be doing very good work rehabbing these eagles based on their flights back to freedom. Very cool to see.

Until you get a boat bill, cut your river teeth on some of the fishing floats located near a few lock and dams. Watch the old boys close.👍🎣. Pitch your brains out, hair, blades, plastics, cross current, into current, dragging against current, deadstick bait of many sorts. River fish are thier own beast. Keep after em, the challenge is what makes it meaningful. Don’t fool yourself either- even the best anglers have rough days out there.

    ^ What he said!!

I along with other campers have fished off of the everts dock and shoreline. Some years it’s great and other years a person would swear there wasn’t a fish in the river.

It all depends on the way the water is moving and what the fish want.

Seems so easy doesn’t it? LOL!

My best luck shore fishing walleyes on rivers has been in the summer once they set up on shallow sandbars. In strong current and deep water it’s very tough to present a bait efficiently from shore.

Maybe try a short lindy rig with a minnow. Use enough weight that it doesn’t end up pushed right back to shore, that should keep the bait in fish holding areas

Thanks for the advice everyone. I haven’t been able to get out the past two weeks, but I certainly won’t give up after a bad trip. The last fish (27 inches) I caught this season was on Pool 2 and keeps me hungry for more!
