I think both of those are MinnKota?

To my knowledge the biggest difference is the variable speed on the Traxxis, helps make finer/more precise adjustments to speed. Whereas the endura you choose between the 5 speeds and that’s it. If you want to creeeeeep, I think the Traxxis would be worth the extra cash.

There was a time when the traxxis had a better transom mount too, but I think they’re both plastic now.

The endura max is variable speed. It’s the regular endura that isn’t.

I picked up a 12v Motorguide R3 55lb digital last year. It’s worked well for me so far.

    Scratcher,

I think the main difference between the two you listed are the tiller handle and the transom mount. I would think if you are ok with the tiller handle that doesn’t tilt you could sure get by with the Endura max and save some $. I happen to have a Traxxis and a old (discontinued) Vector on my two boats and really like the Vector on my little river boat.

I’ve never owned a Motor Guide so I can’t help there, but I think they’re probably fairly comparable. Either would be an upgrade over my low-fi gear!

I just used the 55 lb r3 for first time on the river and I’m pretty sure it drained the battery way faster than the minn Kota. Only lasted 2 hrs goin downstream. There’s a lot of variables in that but my old minn Kota lasted longer for sure

Old thread, but might as well throw in my input. I replaced a broken 40lb Endura Max with a 45lb R3 (non-variable) last year. That being said, my power consumption almost doubled in the exact situations on the same boat. The detent on the extendable handle also came apart on the first outing, allowing the handle to freely slide in and out while moving. You can hear it rattling inside the handle…

The adjust-ability on the Endura Max is awesome, I could dial in my speeds perfectly. On the R3, I find myself adjusting power almost constantly to get the proper speeds. I doubt the power consumption is due to the 5lb increase in power, but I guess it could be possible…
