Just to add to Boone’s comments, my dash is so sloped that I couldn’t even get the drill between the dash and the windshield. To drill my hole for cable access, I had to do all my drilling from underneath. Gary, I assume you would have to have a template of the base and also drill everything from the bottom.

12" on the dash?

Gary, on my previous boat with a very sloped windshield on a fish and ski boat I ended up mounting a 998 on a RAM double swing arm in the walk through area of the windshield. With the double arm I could put the graph in a good position for viewing while driving and swing it out of the way when needing to walk through to the bow.
Also when on a non-fishing trip I would remove the swing arm entirely and only have the base bracket left attached to the fiberglass. It wasn’t perfect but worked ok for a year until I sold the boat.
(I will attempt to attach pictures.)

My Ram mount works fine on my 12 Lowrance. No looking back, holes are drilled.
Looks good gauges are a nice touch as well.

Thanks for the comments. Ron I have considered your option and it is doable. I’m 5 hours away from my boat but plan on going to her in a couple months with several mount options and new Helix. My installer assured me we can make one of several options work. I found a fish mount kit and thinking the gimble plate might work and bolt on the mount Boone has.

If that is a C it’s rated for 4 pounds. If it’s a B it’s less than that. You have a 6+ pound unit and that will not work well if at all. You need the size D 2.25 inch ball. Sorry. I know you already drilled the holes but that’s nothing but future frustration once you hit any waves
November 25, 2020 at 1:07 pm #1991424I have my 9″ on the bow and 12″ on the dash.
9″ is side imaging and in hindsight kinda wish I had reversed the two.
Mounts are both Ram Balls and I had it mounted as close to the right hand side as possible while still allowing me to swivel it. NOT IDEAL but I can swivel it enough where I still see the water just fine.
I am 6′ 2″ so that probably helps but.
I have a 2019 Lund Impact 17745 if that helpsAttachments:

November 27, 2020 at 8:48 am #1991832doz, I saw your previous post so I looked at the D model. What a huge, ugly monstrosity. That will be my last resort. The current mount leans up against the dash so going to use a screw between the split in the mount to hold it to the dash.
OnthewaterPosts: 266November 27, 2020 at 9:40 am #1991841I’m not sure why that passed again today. On the 24th it didn’t post so put it in again without the quote and it worked. 2 days later my original post showed up for some reason. I’ll add that if you look at both pics that have been posted on here of 12’s by Umy and Ripjiggen they are the size D. I had a size C on an 8″ humminbird 999. It took all the torque you could put on it to keep it from moving. The balls were permanently deformed from the pressure. Not trying to be a richard but letting you know. The guys on here saying that a ram won’t hold the unit most likely bought the undersized mount like you did. If you screw in between the 2 balls the top ball will still move and then you will have to loosen it, move it back, get your tool out and crank as hard as you can again. Personally I’d take the one you have now back and get the right tool for the job even if it isn’t a ram. Your boat. Your time. Your money. Ultimately your decision but not 1 person on here suggested that this will work unless you use the large size.
November 27, 2020 at 10:26 am #1991853Consider me forewarned. I see no more work involved to upsize now or later if that is where I end up.
November 27, 2020 at 9:01 pm #1992017Yes, you have a much smaller area than on my dash. Can see where you are having a bigger problem than I.
That being said, reading all the comments, I have the Ram D mount on both my 9″ and my 12″.
Never had a problem with it going loose. And if It does bother me I can crank it out of the way sideways far enough where there is really no impact for me.
14 mile boat ride from 5 mile dock on Rainy to the cabin at 30 mph in 1 1/2 to 2 foot waves has always been rock solid – that’s why I bought it for my 12″
Everyone has a little different experience with everything though so…..
Good luck with whatever you end up with and enjoy the heck out of it.
