Looking for pics of mount locations on the dash for a 12″. How’d you do it without blocking the entire windshield?

I don’t have a photo for you Dave but if your console is big enough you can flush mount it. A lot of big pro series bass boats actually mount two of them side by side with a specialized bracket.

There is room for that to the right of the steering wheel for a much smaller unit. I’m thinking that I could mount a ram in the middle of that area and only block 1/2 my windshield. Lol

You could do something like that too but you’ll need a heavy duty ram or similar type mount for such a big screen.

Each windshield is different but mine is mounted in the corner where it curves. Can see fine. Maybe you could post a pic of your dash and that might help brainstorm ideas.

Here is a pic. North River has a terrible dash design, it slopes at a steep angle to the bottom of the windshield so it takes away a lot of mounting options.

That’s what I was referring to in my previous post. Thanks Munchy

Not really sure where or how to do it on your console Dave. Terrible dash design is a true statement.

Yeah that’s tight. Mine is on a large ram mount and I tilt it forward so the arm almost sticks straight out. So the arm is almost horizontal. Is there room to mount it at a 45 or so angle in the corner?

Balls Out mount might get you off to the side.
Obviously I have more room than you. Take a look. Not sure it will bail you out. That is a small space sir.

Here’s a 12” and 9” on my old hewescraft. The 12 was mounted on a ram swing arm mount. Didn’t block the window, and very sturdy. No complaints.

I had a very similar boat (Duckworth) and pretty much the same dash and glass angle. I just mounted it in front of the wheel as close as I could to the welded grab bar with no riser or swivel mount so it would stay as low as possible. Depending on your seat height you should have no problem seeing over it and not blocking any view of the water. I really had no need to swivel it because with that size you can see it fine from wherever you are in the boat besides the bow obviously. Maybe you already have, but set it there in the factory cradle and see how it looks. Your best option might be what you already have.

I used a Blue Water Super Rock to mount a 12″ Humminbird on my console. I used the Blue Water mount since it can be continually adjusted for the optimum angles. I think if you put the base on the left side of the flat area behind the wind shield it might work. You might need to use the 10″ or 12″ model. The graph will be low enough that it shouldn’t block your view.

I bolted my graph directly to the mount. I did not use the gimbal bracket. That saves a lot of space.

If only I had a flat dash to mount too. I’m going to try and mount it where your 12″ is mounted but it will take some finesse and a ram mount to get it there.

What about a regular straight arm ram mount and mount the base on the black portion to the right of the steering wheel and then have it stick up. Would give you more side to side movement pulling it away from windshield. You could also use the inside gunnel to the right of that. The vertical part of the gunnel. Pardon my drawing skills it was done on my phone.

I’d advise against Ram. They don’t hold tight, and with that setup you’re going to need it to be rock solid. I have a ballzout brand mount and love it. The are not infinitely adjustable but fairly close. If you need infinite to make it work there are other brands that will work better than Ram in the long run.

I guess I was using ram mount in more of a generic term. Whatever brand you decide on I think the dash location is what I would use.

I have limited space on my Crestliner, I put a ram 2.5 inch mount in the corner mounted to the side of the splash rail not on top it would be the red part on your rig.

I like your idea. How did you mount to the solix? I’m getting a 10″ Helix , but don’t know if I can fasten to it. I have a 2005 Tahoe Q 4 fish ski with limited counsel space with windshield.

I will second the pass on the ram mount for a large screen. They are worthless for anything over an 8″. Personally I wouldn’t use one on anything other than a hand held unit.

I have a ram mount for my Helix 12 in the electronics compartment of my 1875 Pro Guide. No issues. Holds tight. Maybe it’s different on a console boat. More pounding I presume.

That could be the case. I ended up drilling through the ball and put two bolts through it to hold it in place.

A couple of my buddies has 12″ Lowrance on the Ram mount and said it requires being tightened with a pair of channel locks but no issues.

    Gary,

Sorry for the slow reply. I was deer waiting (a.k.a. deer hunting) this weekend. Anyway, the Blue Water Super Rock units have an aluminum plate that has various holes/slots pre-drilled in it. The gimbal bracket can be bolted to this aluminum plate, or you can do as I did and bolt the Helix or Solix directly to the plate. I think the tapped holes in the back of the Helix or Solix are 1/4″ x 20 or maybe they’re size 10 tapped holes. If you look at the picture I posted, you can see how I did it. The aluminum plate that came with my Super Rock unit was a just a bit too wide so I cut a 1/16″ off of each side.

I looked at the picture of your boat that you posted and it really doesn’t look like you have much room to work with. The windshield slopes back so much that it doesn’t leave much space.

A general comment about what brand of mount works best depends, I believe, depends on how much the graph is cantilevered out from the base of the mount, and how much the graph weighs. If the graph is not cantilevered or cantilevered just a bit, there’s isn’t much of a lever arm to create much torque. So pounding on waves in this situation doesn’t generate much torque and all the brands will work. This is the case for SuperDave. Mounting it where he did, it’s not cantilevered and therefore it’s easy to support even heavy graphs pounding waves. It’s the graphs that are really cantilevered from the base of the mount that create challenges.

    Good Luck.
