1001 hours on my Yamaha

My motor, a 2002 90 HP Yamaha 4 stroke on a Crestliner Fishawk, hit what seems like a milestone. It hit 1001 hrs this weekend. When I look at used boat ads most of the motors have at most 200 hrs. A thousand hours seems like quite a few to me. Is it? It runs like a champ. I imagine that might be a red flag to a potential buyer. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Yea that one is about to blow! You better sell it to me for real cheap. jester I spoke to a guy in Florida who says his mechanic rebuilds them at 3000 hrs just to be safe.

Yamaha figures on average a person puts on 100 hours a year granted most of the country has a longer boating season than we do, which does make it harder to get that kind of time on them in the northern half of the country. With regular maintenance quality oil that engine should have lots more time in it before it should need an overhaul.

I find it funny how many used boats out there have only a couple hundred hours on them. However, I know I put on way more hours per season than my boat’s previous owner but I’m guessing that’s cause most of my fishing is on Pool 4. Not only do I make a lot of long runs I also spend a lot of time trolling. I work with a guy that only fishes metro lakes and he told me he only goes through a half tank of gas every year. I would think of 1001 hours as a milestone and it wouldn’t worry me in the least…kinda like my Tahoe that rolled over 200,000 this spring on the way to Florida.
