Personally, I’m always in love with the current season. So right now all I want to do is pull fish through the ice. Then in the summer I love the weather and boating/casting to spots and can’t imagine fishing on frozen water. Happens every year.

As much as I love open water season, I’ve learned to just enjoy the moment and not rush things. And I am reminded of the reality of a lot of summer fishing: extreme heat, busy boat ramps, too much else going on that keeps me away from fishing anyway. So right now I enjoy the freedom of just driving out onto the lake in peace and quiet and being able to do so guilt-free as it’s the middle of winter without other obligations pulling me away.

That said, yes, I am still excited for opener. Nothing beats spring fishing.

Not really, opener is for the amateurs. Let them go play bumper boats on opener, I’ll wait.

That said, I’m like Dan, I love whatever the current season is.

Funny you should ask…I was just thinking that I need to upgrade some of my rods this year.

Well I have found myself a bit depressed this week, a combination of life issues compounded by winter or the winter blues. I am ready for my backyard to thaw and the bluegill’ s, crappy’s and various other fish to inhabit it. Then when I come home from work it’s “serenity now”. In the meantime I have noticed longer days, the half way point of winter, my upcoming trip to LOTW, a trip down to Milwacky for Mama tried motorcycle show, .etc. 100 days seems too long for me. I’m looking at 60 – 75 days….

Obviously us diehards have been fishing in a boat already for months but my family doesn’t do that stuff typically so to get some boat time with them is something I look forward to.

St.croix opener is what I’m freaking stoked about.

Opener is about the time for me to put the walleye rods away for awhile. Most likely just coming off a fantastic spring chasing some of the biggest walleyes of the year. Lots of fishing to be done leading up to fishing opener.

For many of us…lots of fishing on or after the “opener” which began December 1st. whistling

My sick days are not paid. Unless I use vacation days. Those are precious to me like the one ring to rule them all. No money, no funny. We could do a go fund me page, but I would still need someone with the adequate skill level to cover my weekend. This isn’t easy…..

I wonder if my brother, who moved to MN from Florida late last Fall is gonna want to go out and fish with me at Midnight from shore at Mille Lacs. This particular brother has never caught a walleye in his life. It’s way too early for me to think about that right now. I haven’t gotten out on the ice with him and the niece yet.

    absolutely pumped.

Going To: Cast bobbers shallow early in the morning, eat breakfast, fly cast the whole lake for pike and whatever bites, lunch/nap, head out jigging in the evening.

The “Opener” is still a thing???

I fish the river year round. Other species are open year round to chase in various parts of the state. If anything, this “Opener” is a great weekend to take care of things on the Honey-Do List, get ahead on yard work, or head to a local launch with a few brews to witness some people who have no idea what they are doing!

While I can’t hardly wait for soft water for me spring training opening is what I really look forward to. Once pitchers and catchers report warm weather can’t be to far behind.

This year I’m going to try and do a early spring trip to LOTW on the Canadian side for Pike.

I’m with you on that one Dutchboy! Just wish the free agent market would finally get moving already!

I love ice fishing but I bought my first boat last fall and I’m going nuts thinking about getting it in the water again. That being said, I’ve spent way too much $$ on open water gear already. Have a Tatula on it’s way to the house currently. Can’t wait to see if it’s as good as everyone says it is.
