As we all know Covid19 has messed up a lot of peoples plans so far this year, including my own. We were set to honeymoon in Hawaii the middle of July, but decided to postpone until 2021 for that trip. Instead, the wife and I are looking at taking our boat on a multi lake/state trip for 10 (ish) days. We are located in Omaha, NE and want to spend around 2-3 days at each lake. We will be going July 10-22nd. We thought about ND, Northern MN, and Salmon on the great lakes somewhere in there…so where would you go?

Northen MN… but I’m biased.
If I had that much time, I’d hit the big lakes if MN. ML, Leech, Winnie, vermilion, rainy, LOTW.Musky EdPosts: 679May 7, 2020 at 8:57 pm #1940749Can’t help you with two of them, but for Lake Michigan salmon, I have two suggestions in Wisconsin. If it’s just best fishing opportunities, I would say Port Washington- Sheboygan area, that is slightly north of Milwaukee, and you do not want to go by Milwaukee now. As for good salmon fishing, and just a great place to be around, Sturgeon Bay, in Door Co Wi. If going there, I would go in the latter part of your trip, as the salmon fishing sometimes gets better as July goes on around Sturgeon Bay. I live in central Wi, and have a summer place in Sturgeon Bay. We Love it around there, good fishing, good food, good free entertainment, and lots to do and see. Our state should open up later this month, hopefully. Lodging can be tough to get north of Sturgeon Bay in the summer.
If you were to fish Lake of The Woods for Walleye (fantastic walleye fishing) you could consider fishing around Duluth in Lake Superior for salmon and coho, I have never fished around Duluth, but I have herd good reports from there. I have fished LOTW many times, around the Baudette area, and always had great walleye fishing.May 7, 2020 at 9:02 pm #1940752For a honeymoon if you haven’t been go up the gunflint trail on the north shore or door county in Wisconsin.
May 8, 2020 at 7:33 am #1940821That time of year i would head to Sakakawea, and work my way back through the glacial lakes in SD if it was no good. I live by Omaha also, we made a week long trip up there last year that week and it was the best walleye fishing I’ve been on, let alone great scenery.
May 8, 2020 at 7:35 am #1940822I’ll second that Sturgeon Bay and Door county area for the Salmon fishing and beautiful scenery, i don’t know of anybody’s FW that wouldn’t love that area.
May 8, 2020 at 7:58 am #1940830Thanks for the replies so far guys. We fish the missouri river all the way up to Oahe, as well as the glacial lakes in SD quite often. I’ve always heard about devils…so we might try that as a 1st stop as we have never fished it. That is probably as far West as we will go though.
May 8, 2020 at 8:59 am #1940857I realize you don’t want to go west, but for my trip I’d probably head west and check some things off the bucket list. First go north to Sakakwea for a couple days, then to Fort Peck, then to Tri Cities Washington to fish the Columbia and Snake, then hit Cascade Res Idaho on the way back to Nebraska. You’ll be sacrificing an extra day or two to driving, but the views can’t be beat!
May 8, 2020 at 9:19 am #1940867I’d go somewhere with no Internet, TV, Radio or Cell phone service.

May 8, 2020 at 9:31 am #1940871I like your style Jon. We may head up to Sakakawea or Ft. Peck…those are on our list too, but we fish the river system a lot and kind of wanted something different. Not that we don’t enjoy the missouri river…we really do
May 8, 2020 at 10:02 am #1940880Here’s a fun one that would fit your criteria I think. Go to Devil’s Lake first for a couple days, then over to your choice of Rainy/Crane/Kabetogama/Vermillion for some big Canadian Shield lake fishing, then over to either the north shore or Apostle Islands for some of Lake Superior’s awesomeness, then either over to GB/Lake Michigan or Mille Lacs or Lake Pepin on your way back to NE.
