Heading back out to the waubay area on Saturday, just curious if anyone is finding perch yet, I would like to fish waubay, but might be tuff to stay away from bitter with the fun of the action, any other suggestions for more targeting perch? Any smaller sloughs a guy can get a boat on? Thank you in advance, might try opitz again as well? I will report back with our results.

Poinsett, reid, piyas. The 2015 net data is out and it does not look to promising for the future. I found many sloughs north of Roslyn full of 5-8 inch perch last winter with a hand full of 11-13.if the small ones grew there will be good fishing.
October 12, 2015 at 12:48 pm #1570379Thanks for the reply, what isn’t looking good in the net data? Numbers down? Or just size?
October 12, 2015 at 12:59 pm #1570386The lakes mentioned will be great but not as many options as year past by there numbers.
October 19, 2015 at 6:31 am #1571746Fished waubay on Saturday, caught a good amount of walleye, was hoping for more, but couldn’t get away from the white bass and small mouth bass, they were also fun to catch, just not the target species.
Only ended up with 2 perch, thought we had them located, but then they were gone.
Any tips for what you look for when targeting perch this time of year? I just couldn’t find anything besides the bass in big numbers.
Went out on bitter Sunday morning with the wind, caught some fish, but much more picky then 3 weeks ago, once you found a little school, you could catch some, but a lot of short hits and then they tended to spook or scatter. Water temperature was around 48-50, not sure if turn over was playing a role? Again, not sure how or where to target the perch?October 20, 2015 at 8:40 am #1572112The bigger lakes up there haven’t had good action for perch, one here or there, but not buckets full. The better fishing could be from smaller sloughs, but by the time one hears about the awesome bite, the place is done. We’ve done well on walleye in some of the sloughs west and southwest of Bitter with an accidental perch mixed in. Going to try some places south down by Clark county, see what’s going on there

Brad-o, where are you finding the 2015 netting data? I do not see it on the GFP site.
Thanks

How do you know what you can fish and what you need permission for? Just road access? Anyway to get a boat on the smaller bodies of water? Or just shore fishing?

Under tackle box go to lake surveys northeast. Then click on the fish species you want.
royalfishPosts: 57October 21, 2015 at 2:54 pm #1572427Thanks brad-o, I was looking for the whole report on each lake. I will look at the netting data as that is obviously quicker and easier for them to compile.

If there’s a road and there’s water in the ditch it’s public. Shore fishing can be more productive at times than fishing out of a boat. I’m going to be fishing out of a kayak next spring, want to take a trip along some sunken roads. Play with Google Earth, highlight a few roads, drive along some at sunset and make a few casts. There’s one spot we were at last year catching some dandy eyes and this year not a single hit.
October 21, 2015 at 6:06 pm #1572477Thanks for all the info, all new to me, I love the challenge of figuring it all out, so many options, I always leaving feeling like I figured something out and a great feeling of accomplishment, but also wishing I would have tried or done something different, o well, hindsight. Every time I find fish somewhere new, it is so much fun. And out there you can always find a new spot. Besides Google earth, what are the best maps you have found to work with?
