Well certainly not Motzko after this. Then again the Gophers have had history of similar face plants…Holy Cross?
Hard to call it a face plant? Tough loss is all it is.
But that’s what makes it one of the best games to watch.
Congratulations on great season to the Huskies!
Not a good night for #2 Mankato,UMD now have a good shot at the final four.
I didn’t get to watch but I am still shocked. Flashbacks of holy cross definitely come to mind.

SCSU came in as the #1 overall seed and the #1 ranking (questionable?). Which would mean AF came in as one of the last to get in. The Huskies, they’re out…done. I’m guessing this is more than a “tough loss is all it is” for them?
There are no trophies for participants in these competitions.

It’s a single elimination tournament, those players and coaches worked hard all year, they know how tough it is to move through a tournament of that caliber.
They deserve kudos for what they have accomplished in their careers,Calling a one game loss a face plant is insulting.
Apparently compitition is something you are unaware of or have no experience with.
Careful about your assumptions, there is more talent on this site then just catching a couple fish.
SCSU was #1 most of the last 4-6 weeks but the best 5-6 teams have all been pretty close all year.
As much as it hurts to say, IMO it was a bit of a face plant. Huskies looked nervous/tried to play too cute for the first 30 minutes while AF got a couple breaks and their goalie was lights out all game.
In the end, the Huskies didn’t play well enough to win and in single elim tourneys, anything can happen. I hope Motzko stays (I think he will) but if the Gophers are gonna base their pick off of one game, they’re gonna end up worse than if Lucia would’ve stayed.
Should probably take down the welcome sign off this site?
A simple post about a simple game, and the welcome committee comes calling?
Kumbaya my friends, kumbaya.
Was always told not to bring a knife to a gun fight.
If you say this…..

The welcome mat is still out. Just be aware of who you call out before you call them out. Some laugh at it, some don’t.
BTW, if you look around a bit there was lots and lots of love tossed at SCSU this year. In fact there are as many SCSU fans here as there is for any school. But the facts are the facts. SCSU has stumbled when hitting the big stage. Not the end of the world, just a fact.
It only takes 1 goalie to have a good game, throw in a couple bad bounces and it’s over. They ran into that yesterday. Good season Huskies !
Well, I see Gopher Nation is still bitter after another cellar dweller season in the “Big 10”.
Tough loss for the Huskies, but when you get to the real tournament, everybody can take you down and it’s not like the NHL playoffs where you’ve got at least 3 other games to use to get back into it. AF had them stymied with a very tight D.
Well done to UMD as well. Not sure this is as much of an upset, but they took it to OT against a good Mavs team.

I know, right?
Just don’t feed the trolls.
I was worried before the NCAA started. When the #8 Miami in the NCHC tournament takes you to overtime twice, and it takes you 3 games to beat them; you should be worried about every team.

Proud SCSU alum here, class of 2000. I watched about half their games this year and just called the last one like I saw it, nothing more than that.
Tough way to end a nice season but if Eyssimont and Ryan Poehling stick around with Hrenak in net, they should make another good push next year.
GOHUSKIESWOOOOO

No idea where you’re getting this from Grouse? The Gophers were Big 10 regular season champions in the first 4 years…until this year.
2013–14 Minnesota
2014–15 Minnesota
2015–16 Minnesota
2016–17 Minnesota
2017–18 Notre Dame
FWIW, I had high hopes for all the MN teams. Needless to say, I was dissapointed that all three qualifiers were placed in the same regional with Duluth and Mankato set to take the other out in the first round.
Worth noting though is that UMD is the last Minnesota team to win the NCAA Championship in 2011.

But 2 MN teams have played in the championship since then. And prior to UMD’s win in 2011, the last MN team to even play in the game was back in 2003 when the Gophers were back to back champions.

It’s probably because trashing the U of M is the only team anyone can get any mileage out of. Every time SCSU shows promise and bows out of the tournament they give them a pass. A program like SCSU has no clout because no one expects anything from them.
I’m not sure how I missed the fact that the Gophers were “Big 10” champions. It’s like it wasn’t covered on TV or something. I was going to tune in on the Big 10 network, but they were showing the Women’s Fencing finals that month.

That may have been true in the past, but tournament success has become the issue for the SCSU program. Getting into the tournament was the goal in the past, but they’ve been there enough that I don’t think that’s going to cut the mustard anymore. I can’t see it slipping out of sight with the loss to Air Force in R1 this year.
