God I love my new truck waytogo

‘I gotta eight foot bed that never has to be made…..’

Trucks with 5′ boxes should come from the factory with the glove box loaded up with Tampons…… )

That was the only reason I bought my ram! I wanted to be able to haul stuff with the gate up, plus pull a trailer. Never liked short boxes. With the 8’2″, box parking isn’t real bad. Just think (school bus)!

Most guys want a glorified mini van with a 4ft box this day and age

Trucks with 5′ boxes should come from the factory with the glove box loaded up with Tampons……

I cant stand these dumb 6′ beds and less

I guess I’ll take my 5.5′ box and shove it up my own moon lol

Some guys live and work in the city, unfortunately. Parking ramps are tough enough the way it is! I saw a 6.5′ get absolutely smoked by some woman in a ramp just the other day. As long as it can still pull a boat and fit a dead deer or two in the back, I wont have any issues with a smaller box. Now please stop discriminating against me and my truck waytogo

Eide ford and Eide Chrysler in Bismarck have searches on their websites by wheelbase. They have 40 1500 rams and 10 F150’s in stock with the long wheel base.

My issue is with the manufactures – not you city girls. I get it, you need the some of the attributes of a pick up truck. Plus nearly all Architects, designers, planning engineers,…all design parking lots and structures for a Toyota Prius. Even round-a-bouts are designed for go-cart sized autos.
However, with the majority of trucks purchased by city dwellers, it drives the market to these sub-sized mini-trucks. Ya, its fine it suits their limited needs. But it becomes a major pain in the rear when manufactures cut production on full sized trucks for guys who need every inch of cargo space in the bed. Yes, I’m bias to my needs and guess I’m a minority. I don’t give a rats azz about parking space, city streets, or how convenient it is to parallel park a truck that is 3′ longer than yours. I’m more worried about the maximum cargo space I have on rainy days or preventing salt from getting all over my stuff. It sucks a monkey’s ball sack to need to pull my box trailers for the sake of cargo that is usually in the 7 to 8′ range. Try parking that rig in a city or dealing with all the asinine city drivers that have no patience.

We have lots of those in Maple Grove. I always chuckle when I am behind a Suburban that doesn’t even have a receiver hitch on it.

Why would you chuckle? My Yukon has never had the hitch cover removed. I guess you can laugh at me all you want. When I need to pull something I get out the Duramax. I couldn’t own a truck with anything less than a 6.5’ box.

All this LB talk makes me sad….it’s been almost a year since I had to send my truck down the road since it couldn’t fit 4 car seats. Like the comfort of the Yukon, but man do I miss the pop that 3.5L had.

Geez didn’t know this would be such a hot topic. When I was buying my new truck in 2012 I was coming from a 2500 HD but wanted something a little smoother to drive every day so that is why I went to a 1/2 ton. At the time I was also looking for something with a crew for fishing and hunting trips that was comfortable to sit in for everyone. So at that time Ford was the only truck to offer a crew with a 6.5 ft box so I went with it. Ford isn’t really an option this time as I would have to step up to a Lariat to get some of things I am looking for and can’t stomach the cost. So I am specifically looking for a Chevy LT Trail Boss with crew and 6.5. I have found some Dodges but just not a fan.

    I know first world problems…

My brother just picked one up this week, it’s really nice!!

    If that’s what you’re into, I won’t judge…At least it’s smaller than a 6.5’… whistling

My next truck is going to have a 5′ 8″ box. It’s my dad’s 2018 Silverado Crew Cab 1500 LTZ Z71 that’s he currently leasing. At three years old, it’ll have about 25,000 miles on it tops, and it gets taken care of very well. He treats it like a porcelain doll actually. It’s kinda sad. But in a used truck, that’s hard to beat.

I’ll be coming from a Silverado with a 6′ 6″ box and currently 202,000 turns on it. His truck will be a deal I can’t pass up. We’ll see how it plays out. I imagine I’ll have to keep the tailgate down and use straps to secure my icehouses at times. The Otter Lodge or two sideways Hideouts fit perfectly in a 6.5′ box.

My truck after that will be a Golden Unicorn. In searching for a house that has a three stall garage that can accommodate a bass boat backed straight in, I found one that can handle just about whatever truck I want. That was not easy, and it basically turned me into a commuter.

I lift my tail gate and keep it shut with the resort in it. The resort sits up top of the tail gate and a cooler and gear and auger slide under that space then

I’m confused on how a crew cab with a 6.5 is hard to park.
My wife drove the duramax 4 door long box and parked in the hospital ramp downtown everyday for a long time. She never wimpered. She learned quickly you have to back in to spaces. And you stick out further then the cars. Whoopidy do.

I guarantee you that 99% of the suburban moms driving new Suburban LTZs that my post was in reference to do not have a Duramax sitting in their garage for truck duty.

I get it, you’re very manly. bow

I might have to try that tip you mentioned above. I think he’s gonna put a topper on it. A nice one with side doors.

I see numerous large trucks in my hospital’s ramps. They just park in the far back and don’t present any problems. If people are bothered by the extra foot they stick out, they’re probably driving too close to the parked cars anyways. It should go without saying to be extra careful in a parking ramp full of vehicles and people.

It sounds like there’s only a need for one kind of vehicle in this country, and they should all have this on them.

And when did the 6.5′ become standard?!

Back when men were men the 8ft was standard. 6.5′ was short anything smaller wasn’t even talked about!

    rant over.

She must not work at the same hospital I work at…seen quite a few trucks get hit from other cars backing out. Also, they’re not necessarily “harder” to park, the issues rise when they don’t make the ramps/spots large enough for the truck. And sometimes a foot is enough. Heck, even stupid drive thru’s are shrinking…saw a long box get wedge at both a Taco Johns in Elk River and Culver’s in Bloomington…it was funny to watch. LOL

I enjoy my short box 95%, but there are definitely times I wish she was a foot long…but not enough for me to consider it when purchasing a truck again. If it came down to it, I’ll take extra cab space vs bed space…just IMO.

That’s how it should still be.
But I guess they cant park them and most dont need to haul lumber.
When you add a tool box it’s super cool you have a 3 ft box left. Your shovels will hang out

I bought a 2018 Chevrolet 1500 Ltz crew 6.5’ box in October. Most dealers didn’t have any. Only a couple dealers in the metro had more than one.

When I bought my crew cab, long box 3500, drive thru’s and parking ramps weren’t the first reason I bought it for. For one thing I feel it’s faster to go in and get your food. I guess if I have the energy to use the truck for what it is suppose to be, plus climbing in, then I’m not to lazy to walk in for fast food!
Should I have to go in tight places I’d use the wife’s car(she would be thrilled) or my bomb Honda!

Thats great for your wife, glad it worked out for her. With that said, its pretty clear that not all ramps are built the same. Anyone could make a 12′ bed work in my apartment parking ramp, but the one I work at is tight with a short box. I’m not as much concerned about me parking a 6.5′ box, more others hitting me with the rear end sticking out. I’ve seen it on multiple occasions. Not to mention the idiots that like to park their suvs in the “compact only” spots right on turns. Real pain in the moon at times

I feel your pain. I cant stand these dumb moon 6′ beds and less. I own two and hate them both. Will never own another unless its given to me. Even then, instant for sale sign and getting a real truck.

So if you think your searching for the golden unicorn, try the finding a 2010 to 2013 GMC 2500HD SLE or SLT Crew / Longbed manual 4×4 from a state that doesn’t use salt, no calafornia BS, and no ties to Texas jester Been looking for a couple years, flew out to see a couple and left them there to rot.

And I always thought you wanted a pretty boy denali, the one with the BBQ grate grill? lol

Manual shift transfer case is going the way of stick shift.Auto makers don’t want anyone hurting their wrist pulling a lever.Same with manual windows. And those dial-shift transmissions?

You my friend need a Prius. Just so you are aware there is a standard minimal size on parking structures. They basically are created equal. I built them for a long time and still work on them daily. Yes I do get it though they are still not roomy for trucks. But still doable

I’ll never waste my money on a truck that is reduced power and over trimmed. Though, I am grateful that there are many people out there that have bought those over priced POS. The extra margins have provided for great retirement plans for some of my relatives

I appreciate you editing your comment to add in that they are still not roomy for trucks. Thats my only point. Its absolutely doable, just prefer not to push it. They may all be constructed similarly, but there are wide variations in the dimensions. 6.5′ could have been just fine, but I’ve seen enough fender benders in that ramp alone to know its not worth the risk- for me. Extra leg room for the fishin buddies (and easily storing my fishing pole in the cab) was more important to me than the extra foot in back.

Oh, and dont tell me I need a Prius lol, them are fightin words smash

Ha ha I edited it to make sure I didnt seem like I was coming off like a a$$ hat. That’s not what i was trying to do. And yes the worst thing about these ramps are the people in them. Soon enough thatll be the only parking availible if you live any where near the cities. I drive a big box truck everyday around the metro. I understand how bad parking can get. I usually just play the i have 12 strobe lights on my truck so I’m going to sit right here game. waytogo

Surprised it’s that hard to find one. I see quite a few in NW WI. I have an extended cab 6.5 bed but really want the 4 door with 6.5 bed next. They aren’t as common but not rare here either. See a number of them in both Chevy and Ford.

I wanted one when I got my last truck but pricing for them was just outside of my budget.
