1-2-16 report

Got out for a couple 3/4 days. 1-1-16 was a great day for not a ton of fish, but the fish caught were VERY quality. Drew “the assassin” and I put a sweet batch of fish together on Prescott baits flukes, and the fish that bit absolutely pounded them if held completely still for an obnoxious amount of time, and on the perfect seam.

    1-2-16
That bite completely dried up for me, the fish we had dialed decided to suspend 3-5 feet off bottom and couldn’t get them to go. After watching a few fish get netted on sticks, finally switched over to salvage the day with some solid fish. It was just nutty, the day before it seemed all they would touch was a perfectly vertical fluke, and next day all they would commit to was a stick. Makes no sense at all. All in all gotta love that river!!! Tight lines, be safe, and if u have a dual axle trailer don’t use the ramp closest to dock right now. You will drag your axles and possibly electrical over concrete. Not bashing, not being that guy, ski was a beast of helpful Friday, lent me his personal electric knife, and extension cords to charge boat, just being a super nice guy. Thanks!!!

Many guys out down there this weekend? Pool 2 was slow for us yesterday. Had to 1st clear out the ice so we could fish. Caught a few fish but it was slow. Kept seeing those suspended fish to but opted for pitching some deeper rock and found our few fish.

Looks like some fantastic river weather coming in later on this week.

Hey mike, bout 8 boats out Friday, prob 20-25 Saturday. My boat had to work pretty hard for our fish both days, but I would consider the bite ok. 👍😉

On Saturday I got on the water about 2:30 p.m. hoping for a good sunset / after dark bite but didn’t even get a bite. The flow is down a lot (around 15,000 cfs) from recent highs and the water clarity is good. The wind was blowing downstream pretty hard and really didn’t let up. I pulled out around 7:30 p.m. Before dark I also noticed a couple boats pulling stick baits that were catching fish. Most of the ones I saw were small but a couple were nice. By the time I figured stick baits might be the way to go, it was starting to get dark so I anchored up and tried pitching. I tried pitching plastics, blade baits, and countdowns, and also dragging plastics near shorelines but nothing. I started to get a bad feeling when it was dark enough that the night bite should have kicked in but still wasn’t finding any fish. Pool 4 has been tough for me my last couple of trips down there.

    Mike,
Looking at your second picture, how the heck did you clear out all that ice? It looks like solid ice chunks from shore to shore. I drove across the Wakota bridge on Thursday and saw all a lot of big ice sheets flowing down the channel and decided I’d be heading to Everts on Saturday.

When was the night the pressure dropped like a rock, 28th? Either way found some open shore in the north metro and found a few fish. Only been out a few times this winter but cranks haven’t failed me yet. Some nights its big jerks, some small flickers, either way they crush it if they’re there.

With the wind blowing from the east, being on the west side is not advantageous. My crank looked like lens from trout opener, caked in ice. That was a cold night. Nice to walk away with some lunch though.

Yep. Shore to shore pretty much. Took about a half hour to bust it up and current moved it down river. I usually just try to cut through it at what looks like weak spots. Getting the bow up and throwing as big of waves as possible really does a number on it to.

All of the fish we cleaned Friday were absolutely loaded with 3-4 inch shad.
