No one under the age of 30 has died from it in South Korea and no one under the age of 50 has died in japan.

    From the WHO today.

“Now, the largest study to date of children and the virus has found that while most develop mild or moderate symptoms, a small percentage — especially babies and preschoolers — can become seriously ill.”

“About half of the children had mild symptoms, such as fever, fatigue, cough, congestion and possibly nausea or diarrhea. More than a third — about 39 percent — became moderately sick, with additional symptoms including pneumonia or lung problems revealed by CT scan, but with no obvious shortness of breath. About 4 percent had no symptoms at all.”

“But there were 125 children — nearly 6 percent— who developed very serious illness, and one 14-year-old boy with confirmed coronavirus infection died

China imposed strict draconian measures that they are able to deploy because of their government/society. We are not going to ever do that here. Please stop using China as a similar model. A European country like France, Spain, or the UK is a much better comparison.

I just read that article too. Pretty scary stuff, but as of now children are still at very low risk.

Thank God there hasn’t been more deaths. They have their whole lives ahead of them.

Children make up just 2.4% of Coronavirus cases according to a study cited. I hope that number stays where it’s at and doesn’t increase. They’ve been largely spared so far. (One reported death out of over 225,000 global diagnosed cases, that’s a miracle itself)

I would encourage anyone who is still in the hoax/media creation/overreaction camp to listen to the latest NY times Podcast “Its like a War” with a doctor in Italy. He details working 14 hour days for the past month straight and they are to the point where they are deciding who gets medical equipment based on their chances of survival.

Has the media been perfect during this? Of course not, but I am not buying into the conspiracies that ignore the vast majority of experts and political leaders worldwide. And the whole “it only kills old people” argument is pretty weak too IMO – I don’t think anyone wants to lose their parents/grandparents to this.

Theres no arguing the economic consequences will be significant, but I’ll favor some short-term inconvenience if it allows us to slow/stop the spread of the virus and enables our hospitals to effectively treat everyone infected.

Its possible that this was circulating in northern Italy even before China declared its own outbreak in Wuhan.

    From NPR:

Remuzzi says he is now hearing information about it from general practitioners. “They remember having seen very strange pneumonia, very severe, particularly in old people in December and even November,” he says. “This means that the virus was circulating, at least in [the northern region of] Lombardy, and before we were aware of this outbreak occurring in China.”

He says, it was impossible to combat something you didn’t know existed.

My guess is they will discover this was circulating in the US around the same time frame. coffee
