.00357% Of Italians Have Died

Italy has been hit the hardest out of any country in the world (highest percentage of a population)

They’ve lost 2,150 people to the Coronavirus so far.

In 2014-2015 they lost over 20,000 people to the common flu.

To date, less than half a percent of their population has been infected (about 1 in 200 people)

Their death rate is the highest we’ve seen because of their aging population. About 7.5% of the .05% have died. (.00357%)

Their infected density rate is currently 32 times higher than the US.

The news would have us believe that everyone in the world is going to die from this virus. But that’s just not the case.

Turn off the TV and drop a line in the water.

THE SUN IS GOING TO RISE TOMORROW

I’m just a construction worker with a high school diploma, and it took me three minutes of 6th grade math to figure that out.

The talking heads keep talking, when they should just get a calculator out instead. Not everyone is going to get it.

    Everyone isn’t going to die.

I will still pray for everyone infected, including Belletaines daughter. It’s a serious issue, but it’s getting blown out of proportion.

We have the best healthcare in the world here. The USA and Belletaine’s daughter will pull through!

You forgot to add Italy lost over 700 people in the last 2 days. But I guess that doesn’t matter unless you were one of the 700 or a relative, or a friend.

The numbers don’t matter until someone you know gets sick.

When you don’t take this stuff seriously you become more of the problem than the solution.

Chances are extremely low that anyone you know gets sick or dies but acting like this isn’t a serious issues minimizes the potential impact.

Posts like this are irresponsible especially considering we now have a forum member with an infected family member.

A little compassion, kindness and empathy goes along way right now.

Italy has an aged population, also Italians are stubborn and you wont tell them not to be extremely sociol and close with each other which they are. Based on those facts alone Italy is getting hit hard. Its is a perfect storm for them and I’m sure they are understanding there situation but the fact is an aged population will get hit the worst in this. The average age in Italy is nearly 10 years older than the average American

I’m not discounting those who have died from the virus. I’m sorry for each and everyone effected.

I’m just trying to put the numbers into perspective since everyone in the world is losing sleep over this.

And many are starting to lose their $hit.

It’s not as bad as the media makes it out to be.

Unfortunately the numbers are going to get worse before they get better, but we all need to step back and chill out. The world isn’t going to end.

And you have some kind of crystal ball? You know for sure that she will?

    And what if she doesn’t?

I suggest you stop now before making any more predictions you have no idea what will happen.

Prey, it’s the best we can do. They call it the curve now to prevent something. Is the curve causing more harm? Sorry to be callous so how does one get to make a decision to affect many over a few deaths. If I am one of those deaths I will be fine with that as I will die anyways in time.

Matt Moen, MNnice, gimruis, and Mr. Cox have some spot on points in their posts.

I tell you what, if my 70-year-old dad gets this and dies, or my toddler, or my pregnant wife or unborn child, but ends up being the last case in this whole country, it’d be a big f’cking deal to me. But I guess to a lot of people on here I’d be blowing it out of proportion.

I know you weren’t trying to be malicious. You post a ton on here and I usually like and agree with what you post.

These are tough and weird times. We all deal with these things differently.

I don’t agree with your original post but I understand. Just wanted to say I appreciate you. It’s ok to disagree at times like this but we all need a little more kindness and caring.

Just putting Italy into perspective.(pic below)

The biggest issue is if this gets too far out of hand the hospitals will be overrun. There won’t be enough staff, beds, and ventilators to help everyone affected.

And I can guarantee those saying we’re overreacting now will be screaming “You didn’t do enough!” if they or their loved ones get affected.

There is a good middle ground to be in right now, be prepared, use caution, and listen to the recommendations. Don’t overreact and don’t push it to the wayside.

In 2001 we lost 0.00091% of our population to a terrorist attack on the world trade center. As you say, maybe we should chill the fu@k out about that too.

How you can even compare the two is beyond me. That is of a completely different context.

It’s far more fair to compare the Coronavirus to heart disease.

Last year 647,000 Americans died from it. An obese and unhealthy nation is a far worse pandemic than this strange bug sweeping the world.

I agree with Moen, you seem like a real cool dude B-man, but you might want to walk away from this thread for awhile.

You are dumbfounded someone compares this virus to a terrorist attack. Then you compare the virus to heart disease. You…can’t…spread….heart….disease….

To be fair cheeseburgers isn’t a fair comparison either. While the full extent isn’t know the possibility this could be a disaster does exist. Will this kill thousands in the states…..naw I don’t think so either. Unless of course we ignore the possibility.

Thats all, we just have to pay attention to it and we each need to do our part.

We need to pull together, do our part, and get through this best we can. Nothing wrong with being careful about it. It would be great if all the political bickering would go away with the virus.

    lol

I picture you as one man sitting in a dark room having a conversation…sometimes argument with your other “being”, your head swiveling left and right as you reply back to the other guy in the room.

    Which is you too.

I can relate, I’ve found myself many times out in a sleeper fish house alone late at night after an afternoon and evening imbibing in fermented beverages…arguing, sometimes shouting out loud at the other man in the room.

It’s a bit spooky when I stop and wonder…who the hell was I just yelling at? “boom shakalaka” blush

No dude. I’m agreeing with you. Why should I have to go through security every time I fly because 0.00091% of the population died 20 years ago. It’s inconvenient. I’m tired of taking my shoes off.

    See how stupid that sounds?

What I think gets lost is 10-20% require hospitalization. 1 in 5 to 10 chance you need to be in the ICU is nothing to mess with.

If only everyone would just calm down. The media is making this whole situation worst and people are losing their minds because of it.
One thing leads to another and when one guy buys TP, they all line up and clean all the stores out. I get you can’t tell someone to stop panicking because it makes it worst but the precautions being put in place will absolutely slow the spread.
This will pass and life will go on as before but lessons will be learned.

I’m completely calm and have been since the onset. I won’t lose my mind until they close the liquor stores. smash

Before everyone continues to take B-Man down you should reread his post again… he’s not being malicious. He posted facts. Yes people will die, that doesn’t mean he wants it to happen or doesn’t care. He’s just stating people die all the time.

We are closing everything and changing the world to save some lives. That’s awesome. On the other hand, how about driving when there’s a lil snow on the roads. If we followed this current rational we all would stay home everytime a flake falls because we could hurt someone. There WILL be more people hurt/killed driving in poor conditions than this virus.

It sounds morbid but there is always going to be people dying. As a society we weigh out the cost vs. reward daily.

Take speed limits for example? People will die. If we cut the speed limit in half the number of deaths would decrease… simple math. Cause and effect.

All you stating “ya but what if its your loved one that dies from the CV. Then you’ll care!”

How about this, will you drive half speed to possibly save someone’s life? Or is that too inconvenient?

I think B-Man was just stating the current cost vs reward numbers don’t match previous decisions.
