Skeeter Boat Center’s “Scenes from the FYB”

I made the trip down to Everts this afternoon with Dan Meyer, manager of Skeeter Boat Center, and my two kids to witness the weigh-in of the 2009 edition of the Freeze Your Butt tournament. With sunshine and high temps in the low 40s, it was no surprise to me that 74 boats had joined in the annual opening of the tournament season on Pool 4.

These first three shots feature the weigh-in crew: Jon Jordan (red outerwear), Jami Ritter (grey IDO hoodie), and Chris Tuckner (standing). These guys did a great job of weighing fish on the fly as boats pulled up to the dock, transfered fish back and forth, and then pulled away to trailer up. Shown weighing here are IDO members Whitetip (Brian Petrich) and Absolute2Ks (Kevin Krumenauer) from Chippewa Falls, WI.

Today’s field featured several Skeeter deep-V walleye boats. One of the benefits of owning a Skeeter is the ability to qualify for Skeeter “Real Money”. Win a Skeeter sanctioned event (which, in 2009, includes the FYB and Saugerama) while fishing from your Skeeter boat, and your paycheck can get awfully big! For details on Skeeter’s “Real Money” program, check out this link.

Among the Skeeter drivers at today’s event were Eric Rehberg in his Skeeter WX 1880, Greg Rudisill in his Skeeter WX 2050, and Dean Marshall, shown in the last 2 of these pics driving his brand-spankin-new Skeeter WX 1950. Dean took delivery of his 1950 this week, and it sounds like he and Steve Vick enjoyed a great day on the water in a dynamite new boat. I’m glad you had a chance to give her a good soak today, Dean. The smile on your face says it all.

As I mentioned above, great weather provided for a great turnout. Here are a few more scenes from the event. The first two show more of the field during and immediately after the weigh in. IDO members Redneck and jjkrooked are in the foreground of the first pic.

The second two pics are from the award ceremony. Shown here are Jon Jordan and Dean Marshall announcing the winning teams and the crowd of anglers anxiously awaiting the results.

Thanks to Jon, Dean, and all of the volunteers who pitched in to make FYB-2009 a great success!

Was it ever a great day to be on the water! The nicest FYB day that I recall for some time!

It was my first time out in the boat to actually fish for a whole day. The boat really rides great, taking any boat wakes and making them a non issue.Hole shot was impressive to me as well, but the best part are the comfortable seats and cockpit areas, that I actual fit in! Lots of Bow storage too,big enough that I threatened to put my partner in! Thanks for fishing with me Steve and everyone else who helps out with the FYB !

Oooohhh, trust me, when Dean asked if I would pour him a cup of coffee while going through the no-wake, I kindly did so…….I may have dripped a bit! .

Thanks Dean. That is one sweet ride! Sure hope the catch rates pick up out of it!

    Glenn,
I got the 200 HPDI. You will really like the quietness of your 4 stroke, just remember to turn it off.It is so quiet you can barely hear it at idle.Enjoy your new ride!
