Well I am really starting to get the itch for ice. I know I am going to be putting some leds in my otter before the new ice season, but when I started to look into what others have done it really got me thinking. What modifications have you guys done to your portables?

I haven’t done much. I find it easier if I am going to need lights to just have my led light strip that is internally powered by batteries and it clamps on to the polls. I hate having to think about charging another battery and remember to grab it. I am all about light weight and the quicker I can get set up the better. Plus is you have one with wires the wires will be there all the time so you risk damaging them. IMO get a nice light that you can just take in and out that you can clamp or put on one of your polls.

Regarding light I have two suggestions that I like. I use a cooler to store all my portable gear. I like to adhere a light to the inside lid. You can one tap the light while you dig for gear -or- flip the lid up and have it light the entire area as you pack up to leave. The second is a bike light. The clamps fit the portable poles and it has a quick release. It is on the same line as Allan is talking about above.

So sorry for the delayed response. So I have a frabill light in my house already and it doesn’t put out much light. So I bought led strip (initially to put in my boat) and intstalled some in the house today. Mind the not so awesome pics.

Also right after I bought my house I also got some frabill rod holders for like 7 bucks for the pair off amazon. That is all I have for now.

In other news the FW told me that because we now have a dog that we need. Bigger icehouse. I told her I am not thrilled about getting rid of the one I have. She says “well we should just get a hub shelter too”. Oh thank you Jesus. So next on the purchase list is a otter XHT lodge hub shelter so we can have room for the pup.

I put leds in my otter. Put a 12v battery in an small ammo box that I added 2 12v outlet to. The battery stays in the shelter and is charged by a 6 amp charger via cigarette plug adapter. The charge goes straight to float charge. It’s like having on onboard charger in your boat.

Pop rivited aluminium angle on for a lip to hold these rod holders on.They slip in under the upper rolled edge and sit securely on the angle and can be placed anywhere. Fish safe.p.s. I was alseep when I slipped the holders in upside down for the pic.
